Rural Roundtable: Staying in School, Preparing for Life, Dropout Prevention

Staying in School, Preparing for Life
Dropout Prevention in North Carolina's Rural Communities

A Rural Roundtable Discussion
June 6, 2008

North Carolina falls in the bottom 10 states for the percentage of students graduating from high school. Each year, some 23,550 students drop out of the state's school — the equivalent of three busloads every school day —hamstringing their futures and the state's economic potential. On June 6, state leaders came together to discuss how to curb dropouts in rural areas, where resources are already stretched thin.
